Court Helpers Make Time for a Night of Comedy

Fundraiser highlights mission of court-appointed advocates for kids involved in family court.

Court Appointed Special Advocates of Somerset, Hunterdon, and Warren Counties (CASA SHaW) hosted a Comedy Night on Jan. 27th at the Somerville Elks Lodge in Bridgewater. The evening of fun and laughs garnered $10,138, all of which will benefit CASA’s mission of advocating for children in foster care under the jurisdiction of the New Jersey Family Court.

CASA SHaW undertakes recruiting, training and supervising volunteer advocates who endeavor to see that needed services and assistance are made available to these children while in placement and to help move them toward safe and permanent homes.

This was CASA SHaW’s second foray into the world of comedy with 240 guests attending this year, a significant increase over the 160 who attended last year. With dinner, drinks, a 50/50, and the ribald and riotous humor of Sean Morton, Vanessa Hollingshead, and headliner Jeff Norris, it was an evening of fun for all. CASA’s next event, the fourth annual CASAblanca casino night, will be held April 20th at the Basking Ridge Country Club. Sponsorship opportunities to support this event are still available. More information about this event may be obtained by calling the CASA SHaW office at 908/689-5515.

Scott Tourville of Zeus Scientific and John Gannon, CPA were gold sponsors of the event; Thomas Dilts, Esq. and Jeff Knapp of Jephens Technology were bronze sponsors.

“We could not have been more grateful to our kind sponsors for their generous and long-time support of the work we do,” says Tracey Heisler, CASA SHaW’s executive director. “All of us—board, staff, and volunteers alike—recognize that we cannot provide quality advocacy services without financial contributions, and we are thankful for not only our sponsors but also the many community members who came out to support the event. We thank you!”

CASA of Somerset, Hunterdon, and Warren Counties is part of a statewide network of community-based, non-profit programs that recruit, screen, train and supervise volunteers to “Speak Up for a Child” removed from home due to abuse or neglect. CASA is the only program in New Jersey that uses trained volunteers to work one-on-one with children, ensuring that each one gets the services needed and achieves permanency in a safe, nurturing home.
