Five Craft Projects You Can Join Today

Try your hand at beading or knitting—or just stop by and chat.

Few things can be as calming and relaxing as a good hobby, but it can be hard to learn a new skill. Opportunities to meet people with similar interests can be rare, but there are a number of opportunities in Warren and nearby today.

You Need To Know Beading: Use your fine motor skills to learn how to design and make your own jewelry at a special class at TMC's Boutique, at 265 Main Ave. in Stirling, at 7 p.m. Jewelry designer Fatima will show you how to old objects to craft something new—bring any broken jewelry that can be strung or new beads and crystals that you would like to use to the class. The fee is $35 and there's only room for 10 in the class, so be sure to call 908-350-8089 or email Linda at tmcartist@comcast.net to be sure you've got a space.

You Need To Know Knitting For Worthy Causes: The Knit N’ Crochet Circle meeting at Warrenbrook Senior Center at 10:30 a.m. isn't just another group of busy hands: they make blankets, caps and other items to donate to area seniors and outreach groups for the needy. If you want to participate, stop by with needles and yarn and join in.

You Need To Know Talkative Knitters: If you'd rather join a group that's a little more gab-oriented, try the Gates Avenue Knitters and Crocheters, who meet at 7 p.m. every other Wednesday at the Long Hill Library. The Gates Avenue group also works on projects for charitable causes, in addition to members' own.

You Need To Know How To Make Hearts: Stop by the Bernards Township Library, at 32 S. Maple Ave. in Basking Ridge, at 9:30 a.m. and make a take-home Valentine craft. All materials are provided.

You Need To Know How To Craft A Harmony: OK, maybe it's more of a skill, but if you want to learn how to sing three- and four-part harmonies, try out the Hickory Tree Chorus Open Rehearsal, which begins at 7:30 p.m. at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 140 S. Finley Ave. in Basking Ridge. The Hickory Tree Chorus is an award-winning chapter of Sweet Adelines International and they'll sing everythign from Broadway to Beatles, tender ballads and toe-tapping tunes. Send an emial to members@hickorytreechorus.org to verify the starting time and location before heading out.
