Five Things to Try Today

Stuck in a rut? Here are some activities you can try today—at no cost.

Trying out new activities and hobbies can a great way to keep yourself fresh and to enjoy the day. Why not start your week out by trying something different? And if there's no cost (such as these activities), it's that much easier to enjoy.

You Need To Know Exercises To Maintain Bone Strength: Bone loss can lead to serious health complications, but fortunately, there are exercises that can help prevent those troubles. Trinity United Church hosts a morning exercise class that focuses on osteoporosis prevention and bone health. Try it today at 9:30 a.m. (or Wednesday at 10 a.m., if that's more convenient).

You Need To Know Chess And Checkers: A young, skilled Checkers player can trap an older player who's not careful—and let's not even talk about chess. If you're a fan of strategy games, but need to test out some opening moves, stop by the Warren Township Library anytime today, as the Summer Game Days continue with players of all ages and skill levels. You can play chess, checkers, or Connect Four or other games.

You Need To Know Knitting: Knitting always seems like a bit of a Zen-like activity: picture knitters calmly stitching away, as mittens, caps and sweaters seem to grow from the tips of the needles. If you'd like to try your hand at it, or need some input on techniques or projects, stop by the adult knitting group which meets in the Barnes and Noble Cafe, in Bridgewater, every Monday at 10 a.m.

You Need To Know Bridge: Part strategy, part socializing and all fun, Bridge has been a longtime favorite of card players for a reason. Try it out today at the Warren Township Library, from 1 to 4 p.m. More experienced players are happy to show you how the game is played, but pay attention: they may not be showing all their cards as they do so.

You Need To Know Zumba! Everyone knows dancing is good exercise, especially if you're moving to fast-paced Latin music. Combine that with some special moves and you're got a great exercise that can burn hundreds of calories in an hour. You can try it today at 6:30 p.m. at the TEST Sports Clubs, 1931 Washington Valley Road in Martinsville, at no cost.
