Watchung Hills Falls to Piscataway to End Season

Warriors shut out in final game, finish year with a 5-4 record.

The Watchung Hills Regional football team accomplished a lot of things during the 2012 season, including the team's first foray into postseason play in four years. Unfortunately, the team's postseason ended Friday night where it began, at Piscataway High School, where the Chiefs beat Watchung Hills 21-0 in the first round of the North Jersey Section 2, Group 5 state playoffs.

The Warriors relied through most of the game on a double-punch of rushing by Anthony Prus and Tommy Giamo, which got the Warriors down the field—but seldom to the red zone and never to the goal line.

On the other side of the ball, the Warriors defense mostly held the Chiefs, effectively stopping run plays and disupting most passes. The Chiefs were able to score three times after break-away plays that eluded the defense.

Not enough referees in a state playoff game? Somebody needs to get fired. For the respect of the kids who battled all year the game never should have been started until there was enough referees at a playoff game. Both coaches should have agreed to that. But instead the game was started. Lighting was poor and Mr Higgins went for the last score? Did he think he was going to get more power points. Shame on him and his program. They will get wiped out by Elizabeth anyway.
