Discovering the Fun of Geocaching

Hidden treasures abound—just ask Mayor Carolann Garafola.

Warren Mayor Carolann Garafola spent the weekend in Florida, catching up with some friends who've moved there, and learning a new sport: geocaching.

Geocaching is a popular pasttime, sort of like a treasure hunt made possible by GPS tracking. Participants seek out hidden canisters containing sheets for logging in finders' names using GPS coordinates found on the Geocaching website—there are some hidden around Warren.

Mayor Garafola said she tried it for the first time over the weekend at Robinson Preserve in Bradenton, Fla. with former Warren resident Marguerite Puca and  Jeanne Terrence, a former associate director of Cerebral Palsy of New Jersey with whom Mayor Garafola worked.
