Enjoy a 'Nutcracker' Perfromance or a Moonlight Hike

Area activities offer lots of things to do and enjoy.

It's a busy time of the year, what with holiday preparations and shopping to do. But you may want to squeeze in one of these events in the area, just for fun. If you're too busy during the day, we've got things to do at night, too!

Basking Ridge

Holiday Boutique
Where/When: The in Basking Ridge will hold its Holiday Boutique from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. this Friday, with local vendors (children’s books, clothing, make up, skin care, jewelry, gourmet foods, etc.), great music, basket raffles and a cash for gold table for cash on the spot.
Why Go: The boutique will benefit the YMCA's dance team. Vendors include local artist Serena Bocchino, who will be selling her children's books, with her daughter, Rachel selling Unique Wrap bracelets and Trendy Tab Bracelets.
Cost: Cost of purchases

Where/When:
Doors open at 9 a.m. sharp for 21st annual Cookie Walk at the at 200 Mount Airy Road in Basking Ridge. Hundreds of homemade cookies and treats will be available for purchase by the pound during this unique and popular fundraising tradition.
Why Go: Each year, fans line up to snap up holiday favorites, many of which return year after year. Decorations also are available, including holiday boxwood centerpieces created by the Basking Ridge Garden Club. All proceeds benefit the Adult Day Center at the VNA.
Cost: Priced by pound, and cost of decorations.


Where/When: The Frost Fest continues at the in Basking Ridge through Dec. 18 at the EEC, 190 Lord Stirling Road.
Why Go: This weekend's theme on Saturday and Sunday has a theme of "get crafty." An ice sculpting demonstration will be held that Sunday, from noon to 3 p.m.
Cost: Free for some events, fee for others.

Photography 11 Exhibit
Where/When: The monthlong exhibit and sale featuring 28 area photographers will continue on weekends through Dec. 18 at the center at 650 King George Road in Basking Ridge. It is open from 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.
Why Go: To view and possibly purchase works by some of the area's most talented photographers.

Bridgewater

Breakfast with Santa
When/Where: Sunday from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. at California Pizza Kitchen in the Bridgewater Commons Mall
Why Go: To eat breakfast pizzas, French toast sticks or pancakes with the big guy from the North Pole, and to donate to charity because a portion proceeds will go to the United Way.
Cost: $8 per person, but children under 2 years of age eat free

Hanukkah Sale/Concert
When/Where: Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Martin and Edith Stein Assisted Living Residence on DeMott Lane in Somerset.
Why Go: To purchase gifts for those who are important to you from 15 different vendors, and to enjoy the music at 3 p.m. of the The Makhelat Ha’Mercaz.

Cost: Free, but bring money to purchase from the vendors.

Madison


When/Where: Saturday at 11 a.m., Madison Public Library
Why Go: Because the New Jersey author will read from his best-selling children's picture book, The Journey of the Noble Gnarble.
Cost: Free


When/Where: Saturday from 1-3 p.m. at Dewey's Comic City, 13 Park Ave., Madison
Why Go: Because the golden lariat will force you to admit: You love Wonder Woman.
Cost: Free


When/Where: Sunday at 2 p.m., Museum of Early Trades & Crafts, 9 Main St., Madison
Why Go: Take in the beauty of the season with harpist Odarka Stockert as she delights with enchanting melodies. 
Cost: $10 for Non-Members, $5 for Members. 

Morristown

Kenny G: The Holiday Show
When/Where: Friday at 8 p.m., Mayo Performing Arts Center, Morristown
Why Go: Because Kenny G's jazzy clarinet gets you in the holiday spirit.
Cost: $57-97

The Nutcracker: A Timeless Tale Revisited
When/Where: Saturday, 2:30 p.m., Morristown High School
Why Go: Because it's the holidays. And, really, The Nutcracker is about as holiday as Charlie Brown's Christmas special.
Cost: $25

Holiday Style: A Capella and More
When/Where: Saturday, 3 p.m. at The College of St. Elizabeth
Why Go: You enjoy a capella, and excuses to get into the holiday spirit.
Cost: $20

Full Moon Hike
When/Where: Saturday, 6 p.m. at Jockey Hollow, Morristown National Historical Park
Why Go: You want to enjoy the beauty of late fall in Morris County. Hot cider and mulled wine will be served at the end!
Cost: $10
