Facebook Discussion: Should We Change the Name of Warren?

Some like it, some say we could do better with a different name.

Over on our Facebook page, a discussion is growing around a post by Axxel Knutson, who suggested doing away with the name of Warren Township.

"Let's get rid of the name 'Warren' and rename it 'Mountain Shadows, NJ,'" he wrote. "Pretentious, I know—but that name alone will increse property values 2-3 percent as did the name change of Passaic Township to Long Hill Township."

In further argument against the name, Knutson notes namesake Gen. Joseph Warren "never came close to the place."

In response, poster "Can O'Beans" suggests adopting the name "Eden Forest" for a five or six percent increase in property values.

"Hey, higher property values means higher taxes, so unless you are trying to sell it's not what most would want," he wrote. "Not to mention it's not pretentious, it is just plain stupid."

Thomas Griffin pointed out the Warren name does have some historical significance, and suggests the name "Warren Estates."

And Mountain Shadows Regional High School did a nice job for our kids. So far, no one has demonstrated any particular raison d'etra for the name "Warren." There are many Revolutionary War soldiers that actually stepped foot in Mountain Shadows, Lord Stirling, just being one. There are another 30 or so soldiers buried in the Presbyterian cemetery in Basking Ridge and I would submit that all of them spent time here. Or consider 'King George" and the King George Tavern at Mountainview Rd and Mt. Bethel. Maybe King George, NJ 07059? There is a Revolutionary connection that surely trumps and Boston patriot in terms of a connection to our lovely town. And once you change the name to Mountain Shadows, we can do something to eliminate the "shadows" caused by every increasing utility lines criss-crossing our streets blocking out the sun not to mention the danger utility poles presents such as the poles on the side of Morning Glory Rd toward Rt. 22. But, I digress.

@Kizbit: I think the State of NJ discovered that they had a sign directing motorists to a non-existent place on the planet. Perhaps they recognized there problem of "Warren County" and this Warren. The sign at X 36 now says "Warren Twp." With "Mountain Shadows" there would be no such confusion and we will have a name just as good as "Basking Ridge."

Notice the ground swell to change the name to Mountain Shadows? I guess you're stuck with Warren.

Apparently, the glitches prevented a number of investors from selling the stock during the first day of trading while the stock price was falling forcing them to incur bigger losses when their trades finally went through.
