5 Things to Know: Township's Summer Programs

You can register the kids for programs now, and join others later.

The Warren Township Recreation Commission opened registrations for this summer's programs yesterday, with a terrific lineup of activities to keep kids busy and adults happy all through the summer.

Here a look at five things you need to know about the upcoming programs:

You Need To Know Kids' Favorites Are Back: The summer playground program is one of the most popular offerings of the township, and it's back offering more activities and room for more kids (fifth-graders are welcome this year). And there's a special trip to watch the WNBA's New York Liberty take on the Washington Mystics in July. Art classes at are also returning.

You Need To Know There Are Some New Programs: Last year's first-ever "Come Fly With Me" RC model event was a hit (it's back, too), and this year kids can participate in the Star Wars Legos Robotics Camp, slated for Aug. 6-10.

You Need To Know About Travel Camps: Older kids can't be entertained for long with indoor fun and games...so the Recreation Commission offers travel camps for students in the sixth- through eighth-grades. This year's trips include trips to the Keanesburg Amusement Part and Runaway Rapids, the Fun-Plex in East Hanover and a visit to the Intrepid Air and Space Museum. These trips require careful planning, so be sure to register early.

You Need To Know Outdoor Movies Are Back: There's something special about enjoying a movie outside...kids run around the municipal park and the stars twinkle over head—and on the screen. The dates for shows are Aug. 9, 16, 23 and 30—it's BYOP (Bring Your Own Popcorn) and free.

You Need To Know Grown-ups Are Welcome, Too: Not all of the programs are just for kids: Plan on spending the nights of July 14, 21, 26 and Aug. 2 at the enjoying live musical performances.

Complete details on all of the events can be found on the commission's website.
