From Gardening to Poe

Library sets April programs covering lots of interests.

The Warren Township Library has set a full serving of great programs for adults in April. Check out the list and register soon for the programs you want to attend.

Spring Vegetable Garden Adventures: 7 PM, Tuesday, April 10.  Learn what you can do this Spring to prepare for a year of bountiful harvests, beauty and abundance in your own backyard.  Wanda Knapik is the founder and owner of My Local Garden, based in Bernardsville, NJ.  She is an edible landscape designer, educator and director of the Bernardsville Community Garden.  She will provide advice on the different aspects of organic vegetable and herb gardening. Registration required.

Afternoon Book Club: 1:30 PM.  Thursday, April 12.  This month's selection is "The Friday Night Knitting Club" by Kate Jacobs.  For more information contact the Reference Desk at 908-754-5554 ext 32. New members are always welcome.  No registration required.

Do-it-Yourself Rain Garden: 7 PM, Thursday, April 12.  Beautify your home and improve the environment with a perennial garden designed to manage storm water runoff and re-charge ground water.  Master Gardener Carl Lewis will outline the basic steps of planning, planting and maintaining a Rain Garden.  Registration required.

The Memory Switch (Forget about It?): 1 PM, Saturday, April 14.  If you missed last year's Matthew Goerke's successful presentation about learning ways to remember lists, names, etc this is your opportunity to meet this leading expert in the field of Memory Development.  He will give a short training that will prove that there is no such thing as a good or bad memory just a trained or untrained one.  This program was full last year, register early to avoid disappointment.

Continuing your Meditation Practice: 11 AM, Tuesday, April 17.  This is your opportunity to continue practicing the meditation and self-hypnosis skills you learned in our February session with HypnoCounselor Susan Lembo.  Take the mystery out of meditation; learn about some of its benefits and experience deep-breathing, which is the backbone of any meditation practice. Pre-registration required.

Book Club: 7:15 PM, Wednesday, April 18. This month's book selection is the classic novel by John Steinbeck, "Of Mice and Men".  For more information please call the Adult Reference Dept. at 908-754-5554 ext. 32.  New members are always welcome and no registration is required

Theater at the Library: A Meeting of the Macabre: 2 PM, Saturday, April 21. Bram Stoker, the creator of 'Dracula', passed away on April 20, 1912.  On the 100th anniversary of his death we celebrate this influential writer with ' A Meeting of the Macabre'.  Actors Tom Worsdale and James Dyne bring Edgar Allan Poe and Bram Stoker together for an hour of conversation and dramatic readings.  Their readings include: The Raven, The Tell Tale Heart and Dracula. Presented by the Traveling Literary Theater. Adults only!! No latecomers will be allowed in once the performance starts.  Pre-registration required and enforced due to limited seating.

Yoga Dance is back @ Warren: 7 PM, Tuesday, April 24.  Kripalu is back! Meet certified instructor and Warren resident, Janie Glidear, for the new sessions of our popular and exhilarating yoga dance class. Her classes, a holistic approach to well-being through dance and movement, offer the healing benefits of yoga, dance and meditation in one dynamic and fun class, with a background of popular and world music. Wear comfortable clothes and sneakers. Registration required.

Spring into Wellness: 7 PM, Wednesday, April 25. Are you ready for spring? Would you like to increase your energy level? Learn how to prepare your body for a smooth seasonal transition and a happy, healthy spring with Integrative Nutrition.  Guest speakers: Michele Caws, holistic nutritional counselor, and Lee Anne Forbes-Doust, certified yoga and meditation instructor.

Poe, Hoboken, and the Body in the Hudson: NJ & the Birth of the Modern Mystery: 7 PM, Thursday, April 26.   Edgar Allan Poe, the father of the modern mystery, was inspired by the real-life murder of Mary Rogers, whose body was found floating in the Hudson near Hoboken.  He had recently published "The Murders in the Rue Morgue," introducing his sleuth C. Auguste Dupin.  The tale of Mary Rogers provided much fodder for the tabloids of the day and her murderer was never identified.  But the case was ready made to become Poe's "The Mystery of Marie Roget."  Join New Jersey mystery writer, Peggy Ehrhart, to learn about this chapter in NJ history.  Pre-registration required.

The Basics of Buying and Selling on eBay: 1 PM, Saturday, April 28.   This workshop presented by eBay instructor Cindy Gilbert, provides the basic tools and knowledge needed to start shopping or set up shop on the information superhighway.  Learn how to open a seller's account, research, price your merchandise, create listings, monitor your listings and complete the transaction and collect your payment.   Pre-registration is required for this popular program, as seating is limited.
