You Need To Know It'll Be Over Soon: This isn't a weather prediction, but it is an astronomical fact: this will be one of the shortest winters. Since the winter solstice, marking the beginning of spring, didn't occur until 5:30 this morning, and the vernal equinox—launching spring—comes on March 20 (2012 is a leap year, so it's not as short as you might hope), so the northern hemisphere of Planet Earth will have one short winter. Only 90 days 'til spring!

You Need To Know It's Not Too Late: It's still possible to get that last-minute gift delivered by Christmas—today is the deadline for delivery by Saturday for items shipped by Express Mail with the USPS or by United Parcel Service's Next Day Air. FedEx says they will have same-day delivery available all week—and even on Christmas. Now that's for procrastinators!

You Need To Know The Roads Are Getting Crowded: Doesn't it seem the traffic is bad everywhere lately? It may well be: the American Automobile Association says about one-third of the US population is plannig to travel 50 miles or more this weekend...and a lot of them have to go through New Jersey. If you're going somewhere, today might be a good day to start.
