Morristown Fete Salutes Warren Band

Glass Cow members look back on 2011's successes—and a jump on 2012.

The New Year began auspiciously for four Warren Township youth. A few minutes before 2012 was rung in, they learned that their band, Glass Cow, had captured first prize in the Battle of the Bands, a feature of Morristown’s New Year’s Eve celebration, First Night. They were one of several such musical groups to have won auditions to perform before an audience of some 200 people at Morristown High School at the annual fete.

The four members of the rock group have been together for three years, starting from the time they were in Warren Township’s Middle School. Mutual interests brought them together, kept them practicing about twice a month, and convinced them that they were good enough to “go public” under the name they chose, “Glass Cow.” Since then, the group of 15-year-olds has performed at Crossroads in Garwood, the HA Comedy Club in Times Square, the Somerset County 4H Fair, and Warren Township’s “Battle of the Bands,” where they achieved first place.

Friends since middle school, three now attend Watchung Hills Regional High School. Sophomore Ed Weisgerber plays bass guitar. Henry Wolfson is drummer and is a member of the Watchung Hills Chorus; Ben Overzat is lead guitarist and vocalist. He also plays sax in Watchung Hills’ Jazz Band. Max Picut, rhythm guitarist, attends Oratory Prep in Summit. All are Warren residents.

The foursome was awarded a $250 “scholarship” from Greenberry’s Coffee & Tea of Morristown and four hours of recording time from the Original Music School of Hanover Township.

The group’s award, made just before the new year was rung in, was a promising start for a new year, said the Glass Cow participants. They are willing to play in other venues, said Overzat, who acts informally as their “business manager.” He can be reached at: (732) 208-7055
