Warrenbrook and Senior Wellness Centers Closed for Columbus Day

Centers reopen on Tuesday.

The Somerset County Office on Aging & Disability Service will close the senior centers throughout the county to commemorate Columbus Day on Monday, including centers in Warren Township and in Basking Ridge.

The Warrenbrook Senior Center at 500 Warrenville Road, which serves the Warren Township area; and the Somerset County Senior Wellness Center at 202 Mount Airy Road in Basking Ridge; which primarily serves the Somerset Hills area, will reopen on Tuesday.

Both centers are open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Most programs begin at 11 a.m. Attendees are asked to call centers for lunch reservations by 10 a.m. the day before they wish to come.

Although most residents attend the center nearest their homes, county residents may attend programs at any of the county's senior centers.

The Warrenbrook center's next two special events are scheduled for this Wednesday.

“Unused Medication Drop-Off Opportunity” with Officer Thomas Wallace from the Somerset County Sheriff’s Department is scheduled for 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Wallace will be at the center to collect any unused or expired medications, allowing a safe way to dispose of medications. Normally, the center staff cannot accept unused medications without the Sheriff’s Officer being present.

Also on Wednesday at Warrenbrook, “Dental & Oral Hygiene” will be presented at 10:15 a.m. by Dr. Huma Mirza, DDS, of Smile Warren. Learn the importance of establishing an oral health baseline, what a dental hygiene program should include and how to properly maintain good oral hygiene.

The next special program at the Senior Wellness Center in Basking Ridge is at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday: “Hip & Knee Replacement: What To Expect,” at which a staff member from Kessler Rehabilitation Center will be at the center to discuss what to know when considering hip or knee replacement surgery. A question and answer format will follow the presentation.
