Warren Girl Scouts Invited to 'Me & My Guy' Dance

Annual event made more affordable by donations from local businesses.

All middle school and elementary school Girl Scouts are invited to the 2014 Warren Girl Scout "Me & My Guy” dance, to take place on Sunday Feb. 23 at the Primavera Regency in the Stirling section of Long Hill Township.

The event organizers with Troop 65837 hope to include all local Girl Scouts who wish to participate by lowering the price. Through the generous sponsorships of local businesses and community members, the cost of tickets has been cut in half, said troop leader Tia Allocco.

The evening will include dinner, dancing with a DJ, games and special "Guy & Girl" activities. The cost has been reduced to $30 per person and includes a framed photograph by Judy Shanahan, who is donating her time and professional talent to the event, Allocco said.

"The wonder of little girls twirling across the dance floor with their Dad or 'special guy' only lasts for a short time. We want to make sure as many scouts who want to attend can do so," says Gina Valenti, the event chairperson.

The Angelo L. Tomaso third grade Brownie Troop will be organizing the event for the next three years, this dance being their first, the organizers said.

The troop has also decided not to make the event a fundraiser for their Brownies, but the girls decided they want to make a donation.

"We raise lots of troop money through our cookie sales, so we decided to put all of the generous sponsorships into the event. The girls also decided they want to make a donation to the Special Olympics of N.J. with any remaining funds," Allocco said. "The response from Warren businesses, community organizations and individuals has been fantastic!"

Please contact your troop leader if your elementary or middle school Girl Scout would like to attend.

Allocco said the local businesses and groups who helped underwrite the event include: The Elks Club of Warren, The Lions Club of Warren, Automotive Restorations, Bellezza Salon, The Berlant Family, Bruno’s Restaurant, Dance Express, DLK Headbands, Dr. Craig Menker, Gatsby Salon, The Hills Mortgage Company, JAG Physical Therapy, JESCO, The Krangel Family, Pilates Design Studio, USA Karate, Warren Family Dental and Westfield Family Dentistry.
