"Anybody–youth, young professionals, adults, etc.—with a specialty and a passion for the cause are welcome," Brandie Engelberger, Special Events Manager for the American Cancer Society, said.

Previous years' events have been primarily organized by students at Watchung Hills Regional, but the ACS is hoping to expand the organizing committee this year.

"Our goal is to really turn this into a community-wide event where all residents and employees of Warren and Watchung Hills (sending districts)—not just students—will participate in the fight against cancer," Engelberger said.

She noted the event's Planning Committee will meet in Warren once per month from December 2012 to June 2013.

"Relay For Life is a life-changing event—It's an overnight, non-competitive, relay-style walk in which teams of people take turns circling a track to raise funds and awareness for our fight against cancer," she added. "It's an opportunity to celebrate cancer survivors, remember loved ones lost and fight back against the disease that has taken so much."
