Watching Hills' Script & Cue To Present 'Cinderella'

Rodgers and Hammerstein-penned musical opens Thursday

"Cinderella" is coming to the Performing Arts Center of Watchung Hills Regional High School on March 17, 18 and 19.

An age-old fairy tale, "Cinderella" was given new life  by those two geniuses of the stage, Richard Rogers and Oscar Hamerstein II, who presented the story as a vehicle for Julie Andrews. Originally broadcast on television on March 31, 1957, it had two re-imaginings (in 1965 and 1997) and was later adapted for the stage.

A cast of 28 students in the Script and Cue's traditional spring musical, under the direction of Judith Muller, Hills' Art Department superivisor, is working on that stage version. Mulder says that the play has a wonderful appeal for its audience, affords its actors a chance to perform the songs of two Broadway "greats," and gives the technical team an "opportunity to make magic."

Among those "magic ingredients" is a plot-line that has  been beloved snce antiquity, costumes and customs (such as curtsying, waltzing) of the late 19th Century, and characters beloved by all who have ever heard the tale—Cinderella (Alice Tuberty-Vaughan), Prince (Spencer Bautista), Stepmother (Cheyenne Pellicoro), Stepsisters (Samantha La Scala and Lauren Panzorino) and Fairy Godmother (Carly Da Silva) head the cast members.

As an added attraction, for the very first time, student musicians will be performing in the theater's state-of-the-art orchestra pit.
