Watchung Arts Center Offers Fall Open Studio for Teen and Adult Painters

Local artists will get to try their hand at rendering the human form in their medium of choice.

Adults with a desire to try their hand at artistic pursuits have an opportunity to indulge that yen at the Watchung Arts Center at 18 Stirling Road in Watchung.

The nonprofit organization presents a four-session Open Studio for Life Painting and Drawing for artists 15 and up. Artist Maryann Ficker will facilitate the workshop which offers long-pose figure sessions in which a nude model will maintain one pose for all four sessions. The open studio is open to all artists and is non-instructional. (Artists between 15 and 18 will need written parental permission to participate.)

Artists must provide their own easel, small table and medium of choice. Oil painters are asked to limit themselves to using artist’s odorless solvents and to refrain from using turpentine.

The workshop, which takes place in the first floor studio of the Arts Center, runs Thursdays from 7:30-10 p.m. Sept. 12, 19 and 26 and on Oct. 3. The fee is $50 for all four sessions. There is a limit of eight artists allowed, and those spots will be filled on a first-come first-served basis. If space permits, walk-ins are welcome for $15 each session. Reservations are required one day in advance.
