Baroque Chamber Music on Period Instruments Performance

Please join us for a special performance at Macculloch Hall Historical Museum by family descendent Adriane Post, the great-granddaughter of Dorothea Miller Post, who lived at Macculloch Hall. Ms. Miller was born at the family home in 1878 and lived there until she died in 1947.  She was the last family member to live at Macculloch Hall.  Adriane Post performs on the violin that Dolly, as Dorothea was known, received as a gift from her brother. The 18th century violin was thought to be one of the best he could find for her in New York at the time.  The instrument appeared in many chamber music parties and performances at Macculloch Hall. Adriane remembers her grandfather, Dolly’s son Edward Everett Post, reminiscing about sneaking out of bed and lying on the floor in the upstairs hallway with his brothers, peering down into the center hall where the music and party were taking place. Passed down through the Post family, Adriane now uses this violin as a baroque instrument, as it would have been used during the early part of its life, before her great grandmother updated it for “modern” use.

Adriane discovered a love of baroque music during her time at the Oberlin Conservatory, where she completed her B.M. in modern violin studying with Marilyn McDonald. Now a member of baroque ensembles across the United States, Adriane is also member of the Knights Orchestra in New York, and has toured with the Mark Morris Dance Company. Adriane has worked with the English group Sprezzatura and renowned British Soprano Evelyn Tubb in the U.K. Festival engagements include the Carmel Bach Festival in California, and others in the U.S., as well as the International Handel Festival in Germany and Vammala Early Music Festival in Finland. Adriane recently completed a master’s degree in Juilliard’s Historical Performance program.

For her performance at Macculloch Hall, Adriane will be joined by Arceci/McKean & Friends. The Baroque program will comprise of French and Italian chamber music for a soprano, two violins, viola da gamba, harpsichord, and theorbo. The concert will showcase brilliant instrumental works by Lully, Forqueray, Corelli and Vivaldi, as well as dramatic works that will feature the "breathtaking" soprano, Elizabeth Hungerford. Formed by Juilliard, Yale, Peabody and Oberlin graduates, the members of the ensemble will be Andrew Arceci, viola da gamba; John McKean, harpsichord; Elizabeth Hungerford, soprano; John Armato, theorbo, Johanna Novom, baroque violin; and family descendent of Macculloch Hall, Adriane Post, baroque violin. For more information please visit: www.arceci-mckean.info
