Watchung Hills High Orientation for Freshmen Set for Tuesday

Orientation for freshmen and new students scheduled to last from noon to 2:30 p.m.

Watchung Hills Regional High School will hold its orientation for incoming freshmen from noon to 2:30 p.m. on and new students on Tuesday, Sept. 3, the day prior to the half-day of school for students on Wednesday, Sept. 4.

Once students arrive at school, they should report to their designated classroom, according to information on the school website.

Students should review the classroom list to determine the room to which they should report, but faculty and peer leaders also will be available to assist students upon their arrival.

Students will be given an overview of Watchung Hills Regional High School and what their typical day will be like, the website said. Peer leaders will cover topics that most concern incoming freshmen including:

  • How does the rotating drop schedule work?
  • How do I locate my locker and open it?
  • How do I find my classes?

Students also will have the opportunity to ask any additional questions or address any concerns they may have.

Following a question and answer period, students will participate in a walk-through of their eight-period day schedule. Students do not need to bring a copy of their schedule as one will be provided for them, the website said.

Students then can report to all of their classes, and will be given the opportunity to meet their teachers. Peer leaders and teachers will be in the hallways to help assist with directions.

This program will conclude at 2:30 pm. Bus transportation will be provided to and from the program. Students will be receiving information on their bus stop location and the time they will be picked up on a normal school day.

Since the orientation will be held in the afternoon, students should add 4 and a half hours to their assigned regular pick-up time to find out when orientation bus pick-ups will take place. For example, students normally picked up at 6:50 a.m. would have an orientation bus pick-up at 11:20 am on Tuesday, Sept. 3rd. Students with a normal school pick-up time of 7 a.m. would have a pick-up time of 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday.

"We look forward to seeing everyone on September 3," school officials said on the website. Those with any questions should contact Mr. MacConnell at 908-647-4800 ext. 6975.
