New Wireless AT&T Service Area in Warren Activated

New link should provide service in town's southeast areas.

AT&T activated a new wireless service link for the company's customers accessing the Internet on Mountain Boulevard, east of Mt. Bethel Road.

The service is possible because of a new cell site, although the company did not have details on the exact areas the service will reach at this point.

"Customers are using their smartphones, tablets and laptops more than ever before, driving an increased demand for expanded mobile broadband connectivity," J. Michael Schweder, president, AT&T New Jersey, said in a press release. "We plan to continue to invest aggressively across the state to ensure that our customers in the Garden State have access to the technology and mobile services they need to help grow our economy."

"Our goal is for our customers to have an extraordinary experience. As part of the community in Watchung, we're always looking for new opportunities to provide an enhanced customer experience and our investment in the local wireless network is just one way we're accomplishing that," Tom DeVito, vice president and general manager for AT&T New Jersey and New York, said.

AT&T's mobile Internet network is based on the third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) family of technologies that includes GSM and UMTS, the most widely used wireless network platforms in the world. The company boasts the broadest international coverage of any U.S. wireless provider, providing access to voice service in more than 225 countries and data service in more than 200 countries. AT&T also offers voice and data roaming coverage on more than 135 major cruise ships, as well as mobile Internet services in more than 130 countries.

AT&T also operates the nation's largest Wi-Fi network with nearly 30,000 hotspots in the U.S. and provides access to nearly 225,000 hotspots globally through roaming agreements.
