Carnitas Brings Tacos, Burritos for Warren Palates

Burritos, tacos and savory salsas and more offered at new restaurant.

The shopping center at 41 Mountain Blvd. offers plenty of variety for local diners, and with the opening of Carnitas Taco Factory, the menu now includes tacos and burritos.

Long-time restauranteur Rick Angelina, of Bridgewater, and a silent partner, opened the shop Saturday. By Monday evening, a steady stream of customers anxious to try the store's options kept the crew busy.

Angelina operated Angelica's Cafe, on Bridgewater's Old York Road, for many years, but the flooding after recent hurricanes, he wanted to move.

He knew he wanted to open a restaurant offering tacos—"It seems to be the new hit, like 20 years ago it was burgers and pizza," he said, and knew he wanted to open a business in Warren.

"Warren doesn't have tacos—and Warren a great town," he said, adding the community has a reputation for supporting its local businesses.

The restuarant, with seating for up to 28 people, will be open seven days per week, from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., giving people craving a quesadilla—or quesarillo, a grilled burrito stuffed in a corn tortilla, wrapped in a soft tortilla—plenty of time to enjoy.

Speaking of stuffed, once a Carnitas customer has chosen from the menu of burritos, tacos, quesadillas and quesarillos, they still get to choose a meat filling (selecting from char-grilled chicken or steak, beef brisket, seasoned ground beef, shredded pork, Key Lime white fish or a vegetarian).

Then, choose the salsa: pico de gallo, roasted corn, green bell pineapple or red mango habanero.

For kids ( or maybe a quick snack), check out the "Taco bag"—a small bag of tortilla chips, filled with taco fillings and smashed...

"They do it in the Mid-west and we wanted to try it here," Angelina said, adding his first "taco bag" customers came in Sunday. "The kids yesterday really enjoyed it."

Many of the customers are visiting the store with coupons included in the Warren—Watchung Connections magazine.

But after months of waiting, as the store was converted from the previous tenants, Mansuetos' Seafood, many have already noticed the store is open.
