Wagner Farm Farmers Market To Extend Season

Vendors to take advantage of selling up to a few days before Thanksgiving.

The weekly Wagner Farm Arboretum farmers market will continue into November this year instead of closing on Oct. 10, as originally planned.

In fact, customers will be able to be able to order their Thanksgiving turkey from one of the market's regular vendors, Mini Mac Farm from Long Valley, before the market's new closing date of Tuesday, Nov. 26, said Suzanne Smith, president of the non-profit arboretum.

A good many of the regular vendors who were at the market this week will be staying on with the usual Thursday market day through next month, she said on Thursday. The list may be updated, she added.

Much of summer's bounty still was available this Thursday, including tomatoes, broccoli, peppers, potatoes, onions and more. Apples also were starting to come in.

The market also includes vendors who sell gourmet and prepared foods.

So far, Smith said the list of participants who will continue to sell their wares includes Mini Mac Farm, Paolo's Kitchen, Gourmet Nuts and Dried Fruits, Malanga's Farm, Northwoods Soap & Candle Co., and possibly more.

Vendors at the market have offered fresh seasonal produce, some organic, fresh brown eggs, naturally-raised beef, pork, poultry, naturally-grown produce, flowers, milk; gluten-free dishes, cheese, breads and pickles.

Local vendors participating include Mini Mac Farm, Windsong Farm, Paolo’s Kitchen, Gourmet Nuts & Dried Fruit from East Hanover, Malanga's Farm in Warren, and Unionville Vineyards from Ringoes.

The market will be open on the Thursday, Oct. 17, between Oct. 16, when local schools are invited to the annual Brite Nites Halloween pumpkin event, and on that Friday through Sunday, when the event is open to the general public, Smith said. The market and Brite Nites will continue through the following weekend, she said.
