Warren Library Offers Job Seekers Tips

This free workshop series will cover attitude, networking, interview techniques and more.

Local job seekers can gain some tips at a series of free workshops offered at the Warren Township Library on Monday nights in May.

Executive Career Coach Lisa Chenofsky Singer will lead the Job Hunting sessions, which will be 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on May 2 through May 23.

Different aspects of the job hunting process will be addressed: right attitude, strategy, interviewing and social networking.

"We thought it was too much information to digest in one seating," said Marcela Dunham, the library's public relations and adult programming coordinator, of the decision to provide a series instead of one workshop.

At the May 2 session, Singer will offer tips on having the right attitude and demeanor teach participants how to express themselves so they can get noticed and hired.

Networking will be a large part of the seminars, with one of the sessions devoted to social media sites and how to use them, with a focus on LinkedIn. In this class, attendees will learn how to create an online presence appropriate for today’s job seeker. Existing users will be given tips for improving their online presence and new users will be given the tools to create a social networking profile.

In another of her interactive workshops, Singer will demonstrate how to use storytelling techniques to engage in networking and improve people's interview style. She also will give participants a chance to have "real life” practice on how to effectively  answer an interview question and sell it with a mini-story to close the message and make a memorable impression.

With New Jersey's unemployment rate at 9.3 percent in March, and holding at above 9 percent since October, this workshop is a timely offering. Singer's approach in prior seminars at the library are why she was invited back.

"People relate to her very easily," said Dunham.

Singer is an International Certified Coach (ICC) from the International Coach Institute, LLC; and has an advanced certification from iCoach & Zicklin School of Business Baruch College/CUNY's acclaimed Executive Coaching program. She has been an invited speaker, facilitator and trainer for University Career Centers, career transition groups, corporate and non-profit organizations.

Pre-registration is required for these seminars, which can be done online via the library's adult calendar or by calling 908-754-5554 ext 64. People can sign up for one or all of the sessions.
