The purpose of the forums is to initiate the early steps toward advancement of the short-term transportation and commuting projects outlined in the recently adopted Somerset County Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS) report.

The initial goal for the workshops is to gain the input of the business community to assist in prioritizing the projects that RideWise will pursue by initially identifying funding sources that can augment the agency’s federal and state funding resources.

Transportation and commuting was identified as one of the nine priority CEDS goals, with focus on the need for last mile shuttles; improved inter-county transit; more park and ride facilities; and establishing transit options that serve the northern and southern parts of Somerset County. These projects are expected to increase the efficiency of the existing transit system, increase access to employment, and enhance the livability of Somerset County.

“With continuing input from the business community these projects will be advanced and put into action,” commented Donna Allison, Executive Director of Ridewise. “We expect that this approach will become the model that showcases how public and private community partnerships can help achieve effective projects that have the greatest positive economic impact.”

Registration for either of the sessions is available by e-mail donna@ridewise.org or phone (908) 704-1011 ext. 16
