'Amelia Earhart' Performance Fills Library Program

Warren Library concludes Women's History Month with special presentation.

The last program in Warren Township Library's series celebrating Women's History Month took place on March 16, as actress Monica Hoffman brought the spirit of Amerlia Earhart to life.

In spite of an unexpected burst of snow, close to 50 people attended "Determined Spirit: The Story of Amelia Earhart," written and performed by Hoffman.

Hoffman grew up with a father who is a pilot, and felt the lure of aviation from her earliest years—she says this ignited her own passion for discovering and portraying one of the most prolific female aviators the world has ever known, Amelia Earhart.

Hoffman studied acting privately as well as at the prestigious Walnut Street Theater in Philadelphia, and has performed in local and regional theaters including the Bristol Riverside Theater, The Delaware Valley Regional Theater, and The Academy of Music. Her credits include commercials and independant film, including the 2010 documentary Breaking Through the Clouds: The First Women’s National Air Derby.

Among the attendees was Warren resident Jack Elliott, who wrote an aviation column for the Sunday Star-Ledger for over 38 years, the longest running aviation newspaper column on record. His stories have won numerous national journalism awards and he was inducted into the Aviation Hall of Fame of New Jersey in 1986.
