Kean Visits Warren Residence for Special Needs Adults

Expresses support for legislation expanding "innovative services" for developmentally disabled.

Sen. Tom Kean Jr., R-21, got a tour and met some of the adult residents and clients of Mt. Bethel Village, the new residence in Warren designed for adults with autism and other special needs on March 28.

The new facility is the first of its kind, offering a residential program for the adult residents who have "aged out" of exiting facilities for special needs residents.

Sen. Kean shook hands with a number of clients and answered various questions. In chatting with Executive Director Carolann Garafola and CEO Herb Heflich, Sen. Kean expressed support for the Innovative Services for Persons with Developmental Disabilities Act, a measure currently in the Legislature which seeks to urge new approaches to housing adults with special needs in light of a critical housing shortage in New Jersey for this population.
