Mobus Memorial Draws Hundreds [Video]

Friends, family gather to pay final respects to 'Mr. Watchung.'

Listening to the tributes for Mayor Gerald Mobus offered by the friends and family members who spoke at Thursday's memorial service at Watchung Hills and a clearer picture of the man known as "Mr. Watchung" emerges.

For the better part of his life, he was a volunteer fire fighter, a Little League coach, a generous businessman and even with those commitments, still somehow remained a committed father.

Before his death Sunday at 70, Mobus had touched thousands of lives, from youth athletes, to students at Watchung to residents of Watchung—and many of them attended Wednesday's visitations at Higgins Home for Funerals.

About 600 attended Thursday's service at Watchung Hills also, where memories of Mobus were offered by his wife, Mary, and sons Ron and David, Watchung Hills' Frances Stromsland and George Alexis, Wilson Memorial Union Church Pastor Barbara Peters, Watchung Borough Council President Stephen Pote, Watchung Borough Clerk Michelle DiRocco, and his longtime friends Doyle Hunsinger and Jim Price.
