Mt. Horeb Church Sets Lenten Events

Mt. Horeb United Methodist Church, 42 Liberty Corner Road, Warren, will be celebrating Lent with a calendar of events including new member classes and Easter morning baptism.

“A Lenten Journey” is the theme of Mt. Horeb’s new member classes, which begin Tuesday, Feb. 12, 7:00-8:15 pm, in the church’s Codington Hall.  The weekly classes end March 26, with a formal new member ceremony and baptism, if needed, on Easter morning, March 31.

Lent will begin with two Ash Wednesday services on Feb. 13: 12 pm at Mt. Horeb’s sister church Springdale UMC, 109 Washington Valley Road, Warren, and at 7 pm, at Mt. Horeb UMC.  The evening service will welcome pastors and parishioners from area churches, including Union Village UMC, Mt. Bethel UMC and New Providence UMC.

Lenten services continue on Palm Sunday, March 24, at 10:15 am; Holy Thursday, March 28, Communion at noon; and Good Friday, March 29, 7 pm. Easter Sunday, March 31, will begin with a sunrise service outdoors at 6 am, followed by the church’s annual pancake breakfast.  An additional Easter Sunday service will be held at 10:15 am, in the sanctuary.

 Founded in 1824, Mt. Horeb United Methodist Church is among Warren’s oldest churches.  Its membership is active in community service, hosting a week-long Vacation Bible School camp each summer, serving dinners monthly at a local soup kitchen as well as supporting local families in need with donations of food and clothing. Regular worship service is held every Sunday at 10:15 a.m.  All are welcome.
