The Warrior Boys and Girls Track and Field teams were at it yet again this week, with Conference Relays on Saturday and a Tri-Meet on Tuesday. Although their point totals did not surpass the competition, there were a plethora of highlights from the week.

At Ridge on Saturday, the girls team was highlighted by junior Melissa George. With Megan Ng in the High Jump, George combined for a height of 9’8”, earning the Warriors 2nd place. George then teamed with Lauren Munzer in the Triple Jump to place 6th, combining for 61’3”.

On the boys side, the Sprint Medley team of Brad Mluzan, Jaysen Bohrod, Mike Ceaser, and Max Brown, placed 4th with a time of 3:43.9. The team of Dan Caffrey, Mike Longo, and Troy Lewis combined for 400’2”.

Franklin High School hosted the Warriors and Hunterdon Central for a Tri-Meet on Tuesday, a meet filled with astounding performances from all facets of the Warrior Track Team. For the girls, junior Abigail Kesslemeyer placed 1st against both schools in the Shot Put, with an unbelievable 35’10”.

“Going the Distance” might as well sum up the day for the running team. One of the highlights of the meet was Max Brown’s 1st place performance in the 1600m, running an incredible personal record of 4:36.1. Yet, Brown was not done there. He came in 1st against Franklin in the 800m, with a time of 2:04. Chris “B-Negs” Negri, sophomore, placed 1st against Hunterdon Central in the 3200m, posting a 10:03.5.

As for the sprinters, seniors Mike Ceaser and Brad Mluzan were stars yet again. Mluzan beat Franklin in the 100m (11.7s) and the 200m (22.95s). Ceaser also beat Franklin in the 400m, running a 51.7.

The jumping team was nothing but perfect on Tuesday, highlighted by Andrew Hunter and Brian Green. Green placed 1st overall in the High Jump, with a height of 6’.

At the conclusion of the afternoon, the entire track team crowded around the pole vault pit to watch junior Andrew Hunter in his attempt to break the school record of 14’8”. Although he came up just short, Hunter set a personal record of 14’, beating both Franklin and Hunterdon Central. His incredible work ethic can easily lead him to that coveted school record in no time.

Dan Caffrey displayed his Javelin abilities, placing first against both schools with a 160’11”. When asked about Caffrey’s performance senior Sal Popollilo responded by stating, “He’s got major swag.”

Coach Doug Kolody has developed a tradition of giving out “PR Bars,” small Hershey’s chocolate bars, to athletes who set personal records in their respective events. When distributing them this week, Kolody mentioned that he gave over 100 chocolate bars, an astounding feat for the team.

During another busy week of meets and practices, the Warrior Track team displayed many incredible performances, highlighted by athletes such as Melissa George, Andrew Hunter, Max Brown, and Brad Mluzan. On Saturday, the Warriors will face new competition from around the Metropolitan area at the Morris Hills Relays.

Hopefully, the athletes can send Coach Kolody to the grocery store again for more PR Bars.
