Carolann Garafola Glides Into 7th Term on Warren Twp. Committee

Longtime Warren committeewoman was unopposed for three-year term on governing body.

Warren Township Committeewoman Carolann Garafola, also five times mayor, was elected on Tuesday night to her seventh term on the Township Committee, without opposition.

Garafola received 3,172 votes, according to information released on Tuesday night by the Warren Township clerk's office. 

During the election, 4,155 township voters, or 36.35 percent of registered voters in Warren, cast a ballot.

Garafola said on Tuesday that she enjoys being an elected official, and even as she waited for results was responding to a problem about which she'd been contacted on Facebook.

During the campaign, Garafola said she has lived in the township for 37 years, and had previously served on the Board of Education and in other capacities.

Also on Tuesday, Warren voters favored the re-election of Republican Chris Christie over Democrat Barbara Buono, 3,382 to 883.

In other election coverage, write-ins Celeste Campos and Lisa DiMaggio unofficially gained sufficient votes to join incumbent James Sena on the Warren Township Board of Education.

Peter Fallon, who had previously served on the Watchung Hills Regional High School Board and also the Warren Township Board of Education, was elected to one of two spots as Warren's representative on the regional board, along with newcomer Robert Morrison.
