Fallon, Morrison Elected to Watchung Hills School Board

Two elected board members led substantially in vote count.

Peter Fallon, a former member of both the Watchung Hills Regional High School Board and the Warren Township Board of Education, and newcomer Robert Morrison, who said he has been campaigning since June, beat out a third candidate for two spots on the Watchung Hills school board in Tuesday's election.

Fallon was top votegetter with 1,703 votes, followed by Morrison, who received 1,497 votes.

The third candidate, Anthony Sardis, received 816 votes.

The results were handed out at the municipal clerk's office, and are unofficial until certified by the Somerset County Clerk's office.

Fallon, who was at the clerk's office, said he believes his 12 years on the township's two school boards were the reason he was elected. Fallon served on the Warren Township K-8 district from 2000 to 2006, and has only been away briefly from the Watchung Hills Regional High School, on which he served from 2006 to 2012.

If elected again as a Warren representative to the regional board, he said he would like to continue working to improve the schools and, at the same time, to "restore some of the fiscal responsibility that I believe the board got away from in 2013," after he declined to seek re-election in November 2012.

Morrison said he has been trying to get his message out to the community since June. He said his support from parents and others around the township was a "group effort" to get him elected.

Previously, Morrison said he has made it clear throughout the campaign that his goal has been a high quality and well-rounded education for students.

That goal must be balanced against the need for fiscal responsibility and coupled with board integrity, he said.
