October is National Dyslexia Awareness Month Local brain training center LearningRx Warren offers free dyslexia screening for children and adults through October 31st

(Warren, NJ), October 21, 2013 – October is National
Dyslexia Awareness Month and the brain training experts at LearningRx
Warren are offering free dyslexia screenings.

Dyslexia is the most common learning
disability in children and affects approximately 5 to 20 percent of the
population at large.  Most people now
understand that dyslexia really isn’t just about reversing letters and can
impact even very smart people. According to Marcia Douglas, Owner/Executive
Director of LearningRx Warren, “Despite greater overall awareness about
dyslexia, many people still don’t know that over 80% of struggling readers have
one or more weak underlying cognitive skills, including working memory,
executive function, attention and/or auditory processing.”

“Thanks to advances in modern medicine like neuroimaging,”
Douglas went on to say, “there’s a lot of new research about the science of
dyslexia – from its causes to how to essentially eradicate it.”  One piece of evidence that continues to
appear in scientific studies is that the only proven solution to treat the root
cause of dyslexia (i.e. weak cognitive skills) is brain training.

Unlike the many digital brain
training games on the market, intensive, one-on-one brain training uses the
brain’s plasticity to rebuild neural connections, find faster routes to process
information and increase the processing speed of existing neural connections.

“Most people don’t even know this
type of ‘brain training’ exists,” Douglas explained. “This isn’t magic, it’s
science. LearningRx cognitive skills training can literally change a person’s brain.
Through intensive one-on-one training sessions a trainer can help a student of
any age learn better and retain information. It’s not tutoring – it’s improving
the underlying skills needed to learn and perform tasks well. It’s like
strength conditioning for the brain.”

Throughout the month of October parents
or grandparents can bring their children in for a free dyslexia screening. Adults
who have struggled with reading or learning may also take advantage of this
special offer, or can schedule a more comprehensive cognitive skills
assessment, which includes a consultation with Douglas to review the results of
the testing, to pinpoint the underlying causes of his/her difficulties and to
identify appropriate avenues for help.

comprehensive cognitive skills testing package, call 908-22-BRAIN
