Far Hills Country Day School Graduate Scott Thomas Raised Over $10,000 for Goryeb Children’s Hospital to Purchase Child-Size Wheelchair

Far Hills, NJ – Far Hills Country Day School (FHCDS) is proud to announce that graduate Scott Thomas hosted a Carnival and raised over $10,000 for the Goryeb Children’s Hospital to purchase a child-size wheelchair.  The Kids4Kids organization introduces local children and teenagers to philanthropy, volunteerism and hands-on activities to benefit Goryeb Children’s Hospital and patients.  Scott has been involved with Kids4Kids since the 5th grade where his philanthropic efforts began with annual toiletry collections at FHCDS as they were needed for the Hospital’s “comfort cart” that were given to families who were rushed to the hospital and not prepared to stay over.

Scott first learned of the need for a child-size wheelchair from family friend and physical therapist at Goryeb, Mrs. Annie Brady, who showed him how difficult it was for children to move from their hospital beds to a wheelchair that was not appropriately sized for them.   After learning that Goryeb needed a reclining sized wheelchair, Scott began organizing the carnival along with the Kids4Kids Committee to raise funds to buy this special wheelchair.  Carnival organization included distributing flyers, coordinating volunteers to host game booths and obtaining food donations.  Over 200 people attended the carnival and with the help of the local community, over $10,000 was raised.  The carnival was held on June 2, 2012 and featured many fun activities including a dunk tank, bouncy house, photo booth and face painting along with carnival foods.  Booths were designed and manned by Scott’s family and friends together with the Kids4Kids Committee.

When asked what his most memorable moment from the experience was, Scott commented, “originally, the best part during the event, was looking out in my front yard and seeing so many people having fun, but the best part now is seeing the wheelchair and knowing that I did something to help the hospital get such a needed piece of equipment.”  The wheelchair was presented at the Goryeb Children's Hospital on September 25, 2013.  The FHCDS community congratulates Scott for his dedication, hard work and compassion.
