Far Hills Country Day School to Host Saturday Fall Festival

Far Hills, NJ – Far Hills Country Day School (FHCDS) will host its annual Saturday Fall Festival for prospective families and their children, ages 3-6 on Saturday, October 5, 2013 from 9:30-11:30 AM at Far Hills Country Day School, located at 697 Mine Brook Road/Route 202 in Far Hills, NJ.  This event is free and open to the public and will feature an engaging Music and Movement Class with fall themed activities led by celebrated music educator, Amy Burns.

Amy Burns, Performing Arts Department Manager at FHCDS, is also the Past-President of the Technology Institute for Music Educators (http://www.ti-me.org), has authored numerous articles and a book on integrating technology into the elementary music classroom, is a co-author of an elementary keyboard curriculum, is an author for the current Pearson elementary music series, is a clinician for numerous state music conferences and virtual conferences, and currently serves on the Board of Directors as the Chair of Early Childhood Music for the New Jersey Music Educators Association.  She has worked at FHCDS since 1997 and teaches PreK through Grade 3 general music, Grade 5 instrument class, Grades 4-8 philharmonic, and directs the FHCDS Conservatory. Her website can be found at http://www.amymburns.com. Amy is the proud mother of 4-year old daughter Mikayla and 2-year old daughter Sarah.  When asked about how movement and music benefit young children, Ms. Burns replied, “Moving to music helps children express their feelings when they cannot put those feelings into words.  It also encourages positive social activity through working together to perform a dance and learning to respect the cultures of the dances.  Moving to and singing music assists with language development, memory development, and the brain's development with higher forms of intelligence.  Finally, moving to music is fun!"

In addition to the innovative and engaging learning experience through music and movement, families will also enjoy hayrides, pumpkin picking and decorating, games, prizes and other fun, fall themed activities.  According to Kassandra Hayes, Director of Admissions at FHCDS, “the Saturday Fall Festival is a wonderful way for parents to experience what FHCDS has to offer and to see the FHCDS community in action.”
