The Somerset Hills YMCA, based in Basking Ridge but serving the Somerset Hills and Warren, is inviting are volunteer organizations to recognize their own outstanding volunteers, as well as submit a nomination for the 2013 Millicent Fenwick Civic Award.
The award honors a citizen or organization in the Somerset Hills area for service to local, national or worldwide communities.
The award will be presented at the Somerset Hills YMCA's Volunteer Recognition Night, scheduled for 6 to 10 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 21, at the Olde Mill Inn in Basking Ridge.
Nominations due by Sept. 20
Nominations for the Millicent Fenwick Civic Award must be received by September 20.
The Somerset Hills YMCA sponsors Volunteer Recognition Night to enable local volunteer organizations to recognize their own outstanding volunteers, according to a news release from the organization.
The award is named the Millicent Fenwick Civic Award becauseFenwick, American fashion writer, politician, diplomat and Bernardsville resident, was the award's first recipient.
According to the announcement of the award from the YMCA, Fenwick best represents the service that the award recognizes, which is "appreciation of meritorious leadership and service representing the highest ideals of the YMCA."
Award criteria focus on a volunteer who gives meaningful service to the local, national and world communities; who demonstrates extraordinary leadership; who exemplifies caring, honesty, respect and responsibility; and, who has been committed to her/his volunteer efforts for a significant length of time.
“The event provides organizations the opportunity to honor their own volunteers, share in the community’s spirit of volunteerism and learn about one another’s groups and volunteer programs”, said Sylvia Velez, Director of Volunteer Services at the YMCA.
