The Watchung Hills Regional Municipal Alliance will hold its annual 5K Run/Walk Oct. 14 at Watchung Lake’s Mobus Field, to raise money to support the group's community programs.
The WHRMA welcomes runners, walkers or contributors to participate in the WHRMA Annual 5K Run/Walk, which will help support programs for the coming year.
Watchung Hills Regional Municipal Alliance is a community partnership organization comprised of volunteers that service the communities of Warren, Watchung, Green Brook, and Long Hill Townships. As a N.J. Municipal Alliance, the WHRMA is part of the NJ Governor’s Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse.
The WHRMA identifies community needs and develops prevention plans to address those areas of need. In the last few decades, WHRMA members have continued to witness unacceptable levels of:
- illicit drug use
- juvenile delinquency
- misuse of prescription drugs
- school drop-out
- underage drinking
- teen pregnancy
Research has shown that local-level planning and implementation through community coalitions, like the Watchung Hills Municipal Alliance, is an effective approach to preventing substance abuse, under-age drinking, juvenile delinquency, teen pregnancy, and more.
The WHRMA provides prevention education for all, from elementary school students to our senior citizens. Our programs address:
- intervention, assessment and referral
- support to those dealing with addicted or mentally-ill loved ones
- training in our school systems, police departments, Parent Teacher Organizations etc.
