Why Bake? VNA Cookie Walk Will Offer Amazing Variety of Cookies

Traditional Cookie Walk also is fundraiser for the Adult Day Center at the Visiting Nurse Association in Basking Ridge.

It’s officially the holiday season, and before you start your baking _ or even if you do — don't miss a chance to select from an amazing variety of baked goods at the annual VNA Cookie Walk, to be held again on Dec. 14 at the Visiting Nurse Association of Somerset Hills in Baking Ridge.

As always, there will be many styles and types of homemade baked treats, along with the boxwood centerpieces and other decorative items from the Basking Ridge Garden Club. Proceeds benefit the Adult Day Center at the VNA headquarters at 200 Mount Airy Road in Basking Ridge.

The sale also will take place at the VNA headquarters. Doors will open at 10 a.m. next Saturday, Dec. 14, according to the VNA.

Volunteers bake the thousands of cookies, and put out a colorful display of trays before shoppers are let in the doors, with many lining up well ahead of time to sample the full selection.

The homemade cookies and baked treats will be available for purchase by the pound.

For the past 23 years the Friends of the Visiting Nurse Association of Somerset Hills have hosted this festive, family-oriented community tradition that is on the calendar of many local residents.

Since the sale takes place at the Adult Day Center, community members are given an opportunity to see the wonderful facility and gain a better understanding of what their dollars are supporting. The Adult Day Center offers a supportive and engaging environment that enhances quality of life for the frail elderly or chronically ill adult who may otherwise be home alone or prematurely placed in a long term care facility, according to information from the VNA.

The Adult Day Center also is designed to benefit caregivers since it allows them the freedom to go to work, handle personal business or just relax knowing their loved one is well cared for and safe.

In addition to the baked goods, shoppers can enjoy the holiday boutique and purchase boxwood Christmas tree centerpieces sold by members of the Basking Ridge Garden Club.
