Cluster Headaches and Cranciosacral Massage

Spring allergies can cause an excess amount of headaches, but massage therapy can help!

The changing of seasons can bring about all sorts of good and bad. It may be getting warmer, but unfortunately spring means allergies! A common symptom of changing seasons is the appearance of cluster headaches. These headaches can reoccur 1-3 times per day during your particular allergy season. They may wake you in the middle of the night as well as cause eye pain, and nasal congestion.

The key to long-term success is relieving the underlying cause of the headache in addition to releasing the pain. The brain and spinal cord, which make up the central nervous system, can influence your bodies ability to function properly. The craniosacral system, made up of the membranes and fluids that surround and protect the nervous system, can also impact your functionality and well being.

Massage therapy may be able to help you find relief from these pesky headaches through a technique called Craniosacral Therapy.  This technique is used to release pressure and balance the rhythm of the cerebral spinal fluid. The massage therapist uses light pressure on the bones of the skull (including the face and mouth) to release the tension and improve body movement. A half hour session of Craniosacral therapy can provide semi-temporary relief from the headache symptoms. It is recommended to receive a half hour session of this therapy each time the headache returns. Over time the headaches should lessen as well as the symptoms they create. Craniosacral can also be used to treat other conditions such as: migraines, chronic neck and back pain, stress and tension related issues, scoliosis, ADHD/ADD, and chronic fatigue.
