Good News in Warren in 2013, Sometimes in Response in to Bad

Warren celebrated its 'Best Places' honor and residents pitched in many ways to help others this year.

Warren residents showed their mettle in many ways during the year, extending support to some of their own, or helping others they may not have known quite as well, as when 14-year-old Sami Saunders helped save her fellow campers from a fire.

New Foundation Raises $45,000 For Children's Hospital

Adam and Danielle Yenish came up with an elegant way through their " Raise Your Glass Foundation," to raise funds to thank the Shriner's Hospital of Philadelphia for the treatment their young son, Anthony John, "AJ," received from doctors there.


Warren Teen Credited With Saving Campers from Fire

Warren resident Sami Saunders, 14, helped prevent injuries when she alerted 25 sleeping kids at Camp Pontiac, in Copake, N.Y., that their dormitory was on fire at about 3:30 a.m. on an August early morning.

Community Support 'Awesome' For Watchung Hills Grad Hurt in ATV Accident

There have been a host of fundraisers — and proofs of friendship — for Watchung Hills 2010 graduate Quaid Mobus, injured badly in a Sept. 20 ATV crash, and his parents, Cindy and George Mobus of Warren Township. The most recent was a fundraiser by students at Watchung Hills Regional High School to help his family purchase a van equipped to transport a wheelchair.

Warren Residents, Officials, Pause on 9/11 to Remember, Honor

The township's 9/11 Memorial outside the municipal complex on Mountain Boulevard was the scene of a moving ceremony recalling those who lived in Warren — or elsewhere — who lost their lives in the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attack on the World Trade Center in New York City. The memorial had just been dedicated on this Memorial Day, after Sandy foiled plans for a ceremony the previous Veterans Day in 2012.

Family Displaced by Fire Finds New Home, Still in Need of Donations

The really good news was that the Yusim family whose Geiger Lane home was incinerated in a sudden, all-engulfing fire later determined to have started behind a couch — managed to escape to safety. They were relocated to another town, and donations helped them with the task of starting over.

Warren Township Celebrates Volunteers and New Jersey Monthly Recognition

During a Nov. 13 special meeting and reception, the Warren Township Committee members praised the township's people as the reason for New Jersey Monthly's selection of Warren this year as number two place to live in the state, and number one in Central New Jersey. The rankings from New Jersey Monthly had been announced a few months earlier.
