The theft of an estimated $2,000 worth of tomatoes taken from a field owned by the Country Gentleman Fruit & Produce on Washington Valley Road in Warren Township took place over the weekend in early September, and left police looking for suspects.
The news already had been out in August, but Warren Township officials decided this month that they wanted to publicly celebrate being no. 2 on New Jersey Monthly's list this year of best towns in which to live — and they're planning a little reception that will include local volunteers.
WHRHS teacher Chris Gibson wanted to do something special to honor his former student, Matthew Kantor, killed in combat late last year in Afghanistan. He worked with Kantor's family, from Long Hill Township, to establish a memorial scholarship fund and to raise funds is coordinating a golf outing for Oct. 11.
The only thing diners had to "pay" for the free Argyle Fish & Chips dinner at the The Advent Lutheran Church in Warren this month was to provide a generous donation on non-perishables or cash to the Food Bank Network of Somerset County.
