Tune In! to find out how a WHRHS Junior won awards in a prestigious Composer Competition.

Congratulations to WHRHS Junior, Michael Parsons, a saxophone player in the Wind Ensemble, who competed in the ASCAP Composers Competition.

The competition is sponsored by the American Society of Composers and Publishers and is open to all composers in the western hemisphere under the age of 30.

In addition Michael was awarded the Charlotte V. Bergan scholarship for placing first in the 18 and younger category as well as the ASCAP Foundation Morton Gould Young Composers Award. Over 600 composers were entered in this competition.

On top of winning the ASCAP scholarship, Michael was just recently notified that he was selected as on of ten winners of the 61st annual BMI Student Composers Competition, which is sponsored by Broadcast Music Inc.

This competition is open to any composer in the western hemisphere under the age of 28. This is the second year in a row that Michael has won this award as well as the Carlos Suvinach Prize for being the youngest winner in the competition. As Michael told me, he and nine doctoral candidates were listed as winners this year.

 Congratulations on this amazing accomplishment!
