Icy Roads Cited as Cause of Accidents

Warren Township Police Department's daily activity reports for the week of March 20.

March 24

Ice on Mountain Avenue was cited as the cuase of an accident at 7:21 a.m. when a vehicle driven by Preeya Varma, 54, of Warren, slid off the roadway west of Saw Mill Road. No injuries were reported in the incident.

Janos Gyori, 71, of Warren, was taken to Overlook Hospital for treatment of minor injuries following an accident at 7:28 a.m. on Mountainview Road, near the Morris-Union Jointure School. According to police, Mia Lipari, 17, of Warren, slid into the vehicle driven by Gyori, due to icy conditions. Lipari was cited for careless driving.

A Sycamore Way resident made a report at 12:19 p.m. that someone damaged a mailbox.

At 3:05 p.m., Stonecrest Community Church, on Technology Drive, reported an incident of criminal mischief to a window. No estimate of the cost to repair the damage was provided.

A cell phone, valued at $599, was reported stolen at Watching Hills Regional High School at about 10 p.m.

March 23

No charges were filed after an accident just after 7 a.m. on Stirling Road, near Old Smalleytown Road, when a vehicle driven by Melissa Wong, 22, of Princeton, hit the rear of a vehicle driven by Diane Sherry-Bouna, 43, of Watchung. 

No injuries were reported in the incident.

UPDATED: The initial report by police incorrectly stated which vehicle pulled into the path and was struck by the other. This report has been corrected. Police responded to an accident at Top of the World Way and Old Dutch Road at 7:44 a.m., after a vehicle driven by Daniel Smith, 42, of Bridgewater, was hit by a vehicle driven by Vandhana Sinha, 35, of Watchung, when Smith's vehicle pulled out in front of Sinha's. No charges were filed and no one reported injuries in the accident.

March 22

Police responded to an accident on Mt. Bethel Road at 3:24 p.m., after a vehicle driven by Terrill Tomsky, 63, of Warren, struck a vehicle driven by Lucy Wolfe, 86, also of Warren. No injuries were reported in the incident, and no charges have been filed.

March 21

Qing Zhang, 47, of Marlboro, was charged with driving without insurance and for being unable to present a valid driver's license after the vehicle he was driving on King George Road near Mt. Horeb Road, hit the rear of a vehicle driven by John Kapferer, 66, of Robbinsville, at 8:44 a.m. No injuries were reported in the incident.

Ronald Hernandez-Gonzales, 54, of Detroit, was treated for injuries and released after the vehicle he was driving on Stirling Road, north of Mountain Avenue, at 9:39 a.m. struck a utility pole when he lost control of the vehicle. He was charged with careless driving after the accident.

March 20

Police responded to a report of a hit-and-run accident on Mt. Bethel Road, near Mt. Horeb Road, at 1:32 a.m. after Danuta Pommer, 62, reported a vehicle driving away after hitting the rear of the vehicle she was driving. No injuries were reported in the incident.

Milan Horkavy, 26, of Clifton, was charged with using a cell phone while driving after the vehicle he was driving on Mountainview Road, by Round Top Road, left the road and struck a tree at 10:36 a.m. No injuries were reported in the incident.

March 19

Carolyn Currey, 67, of Bedminister, was charged with careless driving and driving without a valid driver's license at 11:57 p.m., after the vehicle she was driving hit a utility pole on Mountainview Road, near Manor Drive. Currey refused medical attention at the scene, and was released after the charges filed.

March 18

A Mountain Avenue resident reported an attempted burglary at 11:37 a.m. No other information on the incident has been released.
