Green Brook Man Charged After Breaking Into Home, Assaulting Owner

Jason Rybka facing burglary and assault charges.

Green Brook Police took Jason A. Rybka, 36, of Tallwoods Lane in Green Brook, into custody after he emerged from the garage of a Rock Avenue house where he had assaulted the owner after breaking in.

According to Somerset County Prosecutor Geoffrey D. Soriano and Green Brook Township Chief of Police Martin Rasmussen, the incident occurred Wednesday. Rybka allegedly entered the house through a garage, assaulted the homeowner by punching her on the neck, and attempted to force her into the basement of the house.

She was able to breakaway, however, and called police after getting her 13-year-old daughter who was also in the home and fleeing outside.

When police arrived, the homeowner told officers Rybka was still in the house. He was taken into custody without incident as he emerged again through the garage.

Soriano said the investigation discovered Rybka had attempted to enter another residence on Tallwoods Lane in Green Brook Township prior to breaking in to the Rock Avenue property.

He was charged with Burglary, 2nd degree, Aggravated Assault, 2nd degree, and Attempted Burglary, 3rd degree, and is being held in the Somerset County Jail with a cash bail set at $75,000. As a condition of the bail the defendant is not to have contact with the victims.
