Gunman Robs Watchung Game Stop Store

Police say employee was struck by gunman during Thursday night robbery.

A man armed with a semi-automatic handgun robbed the Game Stop store, in the Watchung Square Mall, shortly after 9 p.m. Thursday, according to a statement from  Somerset County Prosecutor Geoffrey D. Soriano, Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Chief of Detectives Stuart Buckman and Watchung Borough Acting Chief of Police Joe Cina.

The statement noted Watchung Police were dispatched to the Game Stop store at 9:06 p.m. on a reported armed robbery. An employee of the store told police a man entered the store at about 9 p.m., then pointed a black handgun at him and ordered him to lock the store doors.

The gunman then took an undisclosed amount of currency and electronics, hit the employee on the left side of his face with the gun, and left the store, according to police.

Prosecutor Soriano said  Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Squad detectives are working with Watchung detectives on the investigation. 

The suspect is described as a black male, approximately 6 feet tall, wearing baggy dark blue jeans, a black hooded sweatshirt, gloves, an orange scarf, and carrying a one strap black backpack.
