5 Sent to Hospital in Route 78 Accident, Police Say

Authorities said no immediate fatalities were reported from crash that shutdown the highway.

An accident on Route 78 eastbound in Warren Saturday shut down the highway and backed up traffic for miles.

UPDATE: Internal injuries and head lacerations were suffered in crash, police say.

The accident involved one vehicle and all five occupants were transported to area hospitals, according to New Jersey State Trooper Boazej Oczkos, who said that no fatalities had been reported as a result of the accident as of 8 p.m.

An eyewitness at the scene said the accident shut down the eastbound side of the highway, and that two medivic helicopters landed at approximately 5:15 p.m. 

The right lane and the shoulder of the eastbound side of the highway were the first to be reopened, Oczkos said.
