A Westfield man has been identified as the trespasser who was struck and killed early Monday afternoon by a NJ Transit train.

David Hurling, 26, of Sterling Place in Westfield was killed about 1 p.m. in Bound Brook, east of the Bridgewater station, reports NJ.com.

Raritan Valley Line service was suspended in both directions at about 1 p.m. when the train traveling between the Bridgewater and Bound Brook stops struck Hurling on the tracks, said Nancy Snyder, a NJ Transit spokesperson.

It was not immediately clear what the man was doing on the tracks or if the train operator had any time to try to stop the train before impact. Snyder declined to answer further questions.

Train service resumed at 2:15 p.m. Snyder said as of 3 p.m., Raritan Valley trains were still experiencing "minor delays."

Authorities were still on scene as of 3:30 p.m., with the stalled train at the dead end of West Main Street, near the parking lot of the Imperial restaurant in Bound Brook.
