Police: Stay Off Roads During Sandy

For protection not only of drivers, but also emergency crews working.

Warren Township police are asking residents to stay off the roads as Hurricane Sandy psses over the area.

Noting the risk to both drivers and emergency responders trying get to areas, Township Administrator Mark Krane reiterated the request, Monday morning.

Also, residents are asked to only call 9-1-1 for life-threatening emergencies, not to report power outages or other matters.

Krane also said Stonecrest Community Church has been prepped as a warming shelter in the event of power outages.

Regarding power outages, Krane said it's vital for residents to report power outage to the utility companies, and not police.

The township Local Emergency Committee, which includes municipal officials, police, fire and Rescue Squad members, and CERT members, meets daily with information relayed from similar county and state meetings to coordinate the planning.

The committee will meet again through the storm.
