Prosecutor: Exxon Employee Robbed at Gunpoint

Authorities say no one was injured in Bernards Township incident near Interstate 78.

A Martinsville Exxon gas station employee was robbed at gunpoint during the overnight hours Wednesday, the Somerset County Prosecutor's Office said.

No one was injured during the incident, which occurred near Interstate 78, confirmed on Wednesday afternoon.

Township police received a 911 call Wednesday at about 1:55 a.m. from an employee at the Martinsville Exxon station, reporting the armed robbery, according to a statement released by Somerset County Prosecutor Geoffrey D. Soriano, along with Somerset County Chief of Detectives Stuart Buckman and Bernards Township Police Chief Brian Bobowitz.

The gas station employee told officers a dark-colored vehicle pulled up to the gas pumps, the front passenger exited the vehicle and pointed a handgun at him, the prosecutor's said. The gunman then allegedly demanded money, the prosecutor's said.

The gunman proceeded to walk the attendant to the gas station cash register to remove the cash tray, the prosecutor's office said. The gunman then got back into the vehicle, which was driven off in a northerly direction on Martinsville Road, according to the prosecutor's office.

The gunman is described as a dark-skinned male, approximately 5-foot-9 with facial hair, the prosecutor's office said.
