Suspect in Green Brook Burglary Taken Into Custody

Somerset County Prosecutor Geoffrey D. Soriano, Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Chief of Detectives Stuart Buckman and Green Brook Township Chief of Police Martin Rasmussen announced the arrest Tuesday of Nicholas James Pokriots, age 24, of Trenton, in connection to an October 2011 burgary 

Accoridng to Prosecutor Soriano, a Green Brook homeowner arrived at their Remrose Ledge residence at about 10:30 a.m. on Oct. 31, and saw a maroon-colored 2003 Saturn Ion parked in their driveway. 

"The victims observed a male exit their house through the front door carrying a pillowcase," Soriano said in a press release. "The victims confronted the individual as he entered the Saturn Ion and he attempted to flee the scene. In attempting to leave the scene, defendant Pokriots smashed his car, registered to his mother, into two parked vehicles owned by the victims and caused more than $6,000 in damages."

Soriano alleged Pokriots had taken a container of change and bills with more than $500 in it.

Detectives from the Green Brook Township Police Department and the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Burglary Task Force identified defendant Pokriots as a potential suspect, and on Jan. 26, Task Force detectives executed a Superior Court Search Warrant at the defendant’s residence in Trenton.

The search yielded items taken during residential burglaries committed in Mercer and Hunterdon counties between November 2011 and January. 

Pokriots was taken into custody without incient, and is currently being held in the Mercer County Jail. Additional burglary and theft charges have been filed against him in the Superior Court in Mercer County.
