1,333 Pounds of Tomatoes Stolen From Warren Field

Missing fruit reported to have been taken from field valued at $2,000.

The theft of an estimated $2,000 worth of tomatoes taken from a field owned by the Country Gentleman Fruit & Produce on Washington Valley Road in Warren Township is still being investigated, police reported this week.

The theft apparently occurred at some time between last Friday and Sunday, according to the police report. "We are still investigating for suspects," Lt. Herbert Hentschel Jr. said on Tuesday morning.

The loss of the tomatoes was reported at about 1,333 pounds at a value of about $1.50 per pound, according to police figures.

The owner of the Country Gentleman has some land across the street from the establishment at 115 Washington Road where he had planted tomato plants, according to police.

It was discovered that someone had picked all the tomatoes from these plants, the lieutenant said.

Patch will continue to update this story as more information becomes available.

Do you think it's sad that people apparently can't be trusted not to raid an open field in what was long a farm town? Where do you think more than 1,300 pounds of tomatoes might be taken?
