Two Still Hospitalized After Airlifted From I-78 Crash

Two occupants of a vehicle that flipped on Interstate 78 late Saturday night in Bernards Township remain hospitalized at Morristown Medical Center.

Max Torres, 20, of Elizabeth, and Amber Rouland, 19, of Newark, have been identified as the occupants who were airlifted from the scene after Torres lost control of the vehicle Saturday night at about 11:40 p.m., State Police said.

State Police said Torres' vehicle first spun out of control on wet pavement before traveling across the roadway, and hitting a guardrail near the 33.7 mile marker of the eastbound lanes, just west of the Liberty Corner interchange. The car then "bounced back" across the road, and came to a stop in the center median, police said.

Torres and Rouland were taken by NorthSTAR Medevac to Morristown Medical Center, where the hospital said Torres is listed in serious condition and Roulan in fair condition. 

State police are continuing to investigate the accident. Earlier, state police said alcohol may have been a factor in causing the accident.
